Managed Hosting Pricing 2026: Plans and Real Costs

Managed hosting starts near $11 a month for a flexible cloud server. Managed WordPress plans with tighter platform support start around $30 to $35. The right comparison is not the headline price alone. Check how many sites you can host, how traffic is measured, what support covers and which services cost extra. The prices below were verified on 5 October 2026.

The short version

Cloudways Flexible starts at $11 a month, WP Engine starts at $30 and Kinsta starts at $35. A small business should normally budget $15 to $40 a month after email and domain costs. Pay more only when the website needs additional traffic capacity, storage, sites or specialist support.

Managed hosting price comparison

These entry plans solve different problems. Cloudways gives you managed cloud infrastructure and more server control. WP Engine and Kinsta sell a more WordPress-specific service with site, traffic and storage allowances. Prices are in US dollars before tax.

Provider and planStarting pricePublished allowanceBest fit
Cloudways Flexible Micro$11/mo2 GB RAM, 1 vCPU, 50 GB storageOne or several small sites when you can manage WordPress
WP Engine Startup$30/mo1 site, 25,000 visits, 10 GB storageOne WordPress site needing platform support
Kinsta Single 35k$35/mo or $350/yr1 site, 35,000 visits, 10 GB storageOne business site needing managed WordPress support

Starting price does not mean the same thing

Cloudways charges for a server that can hold multiple applications. WP Engine and Kinsta price their entry plans around one WordPress installation. Compare the complete allowance and the work you still need to do before deciding which monthly number is cheaper.

Managed cloud: what Cloudways costs

Cloudways Flexible currently starts at $11 a month for its DigitalOcean Micro configuration with 2 GB RAM, one vCPU, 50 GB storage and 2 TB transfer. It allows unlimited websites and visits within the server's resources. Billing follows usage instead of locking you into a long introductory term. The exact price can change with the cloud provider, server type and region, so use the figure shown when you launch the server.

Managed WordPress: what Kinsta costs per tier

Kinsta does not sell you a server size. It sells you a visit or bandwidth allowance for a set number of WordPress sites, then handles the infrastructure underneath. That is why it starts three times higher than Cloudways.

PlanSitesVisits a monthMonthlyPaid annually
Single 35k135,000$35$350/yr ($30/mo)
Single 65k165,000$50$500/yr ($42/mo)
Single 125k1125,000$90$900/yr ($75/mo)
WP 22—$70$700/yr ($59/mo)
WP 55—$115$1,150/yr ($96/mo)
WP 1010—$225$2,250/yr ($188/mo)

Paying annually saves two months across the range. Storage is 10 GB on the single-site plans up to the $90 tier, which is plenty for a normal site and tight for one with a large media library.

What WP Engine costs

WP Engine's current purchase page lists Startup from $30 a month for one site, 25,000 visits, 10 GB storage and 75 GB bandwidth. Professional starts at $55, Growth at $109 and Scale at $276. Those are starting purchase prices. WP Engine also publishes a separate 2026 renewal schedule with higher amounts for some existing subscriptions, so confirm both today's checkout total and the future renewal inside your order before paying.

The costs that are not in the headline price

This is where managed hosting budgets go wrong. The monthly server price is real, but several things most people assume are included are sold separately. These are Cloudways' published add-on rates. Similar extra costs appear across the category.

Add-onPriceDo you need it?
Email mailboxes$1.50 per mailbox a monthYes, if you want you@yourdomain.com — managed cloud does not include email
Cloudflare Enterprise CDNFrom $4.99 per domain a monthOnly if visitors are far from your server
Site Manager ProFrom $3 per application a monthOptional for tested updates and multi-site management
Malware protectionFrom $4 per site a monthOptional. A well-maintained site rarely needs it
Advanced support$100 a monthNo. This covers plugin and theme troubleshooting, not hosting
Domain registrationNot soldBuy it elsewhere, about $11 a year

Staging, SSL, migration of your first site, 24/7 support and unlimited applications per server are included at both Cloudways and Kinsta. Those are the ones people expect to pay for and do not have to.

The honest monthly number

A one-site business on Cloudways Micro with two mailboxes and a domain is $11 + $3 + about $1 = roughly $15 a month, not $11. On Kinsta Single it is $35 plus email from somewhere else, because Kinsta does not sell mailboxes either. Budget the real figure, not the one on the pricing card.

What should a small business budget?

WebsiteSensible monthly budgetWhat that budget should cover
Brochure site or blog$15–$40Hosting, one or two mailboxes and a separately registered domain
Small WooCommerce store$30–$100More server capacity, daily backups and store monitoring
Several client sites$50–$250+A larger server or multi-site plan plus management tools
High-traffic or business-critical site$100+Measured capacity, stronger support and tested recovery

These are planning ranges rather than provider quotes. Traffic alone does not determine the bill. A low-traffic store can need more CPU than a popular static blog. An agency may pay more for workflow tools even when its sites are small. Start with the smallest plan that meets the published limits, then scale when monitoring shows a real constraint.

Managed versus what you are probably paying now

Most people asking about managed hosting prices are on shared hosting and wondering what the jump costs. The difference is smaller once an introductory shared-hosting rate ends. These prices were checked on 5 October 2026.

What you haveYear oneYear two onward
Hostinger Premium (shared)$143.52 prepaid for 48 months$10.99/mo
Bluehost Starter (shared)$143.64 prepaid for 36 months$9.99/mo
SiteGround StartUp (shared)$35.88 for 12 months$17.99/mo
Cloudways Micro (managed cloud)$11/mo, nothing prepaid$11/mo
Kinsta Single (managed WordPress)$35/mo or $350/yrSame

Compare the renewal column with the managed plan you would actually buy. SiteGround StartUp renews at $17.99 a month, while Cloudways Flexible starts at $11. The cheaper number does not automatically make Cloudways the better choice because SiteGround includes email, a first-year domain and a simpler shared-hosting setup. Price the missing services before moving.

Put your own numbers in and see the total over the years you will actually stay.

How to pick your tier without guessing

  1. 1Find your monthly visitors in Google Analytics or your current host's stats. Not pageviews — visitors.
  2. 2For a small brochure site or blog, start with the lowest plan whose storage and platform model fit the website.
  3. 3Add the mailboxes you need at $1.50 each plus a domain at about $11 a year. That is your real monthly figure.
  4. 4Run it for a month and watch the server's CPU and RAM in the dashboard. If nothing is near its limit, you are on the right plan.
  5. 5Only move up when monitoring shows a capacity problem or the site reaches a published limit. Increase one tier at a time and measure again.

Where these numbers came from

Cloudways, Kinsta and WP Engine figures were read from their official pricing pages on 5 October 2026 in US dollars before tax. Shared-hosting comparison prices were checked on the providers' own pages on the same date. Promotions, regions and taxes can change the amount at checkout. We have run a Cloudways server ourselves but not Kinsta or WP Engine, so those sections compare published pricing and allowances rather than first-hand performance.

Frequently asked questions

How much does managed hosting cost per month?

Managed cloud starts at $11 a month on Cloudways Flexible. Managed WordPress starts at $30 a month on WP Engine or $35 on Kinsta. A small business should usually budget $15 to $40 a month after adding email and a separately registered domain.

Why is managed WordPress more expensive than managed cloud?

With Cloudways you rent a server and the platform manages it; you still pick the size and keep WordPress updated. Kinsta sells the outcome instead — a visit allowance with WordPress handled for you. You are paying for the work you are not doing.

Is managed hosting worth it over shared hosting?

Once your shared plan's intro rate ends, the price gap mostly disappears. SiteGround renews at $17.99 a month, which is more than Cloudways Micro at $11. Managed hosting is worth it when you want monthly billing, staging or room to grow rather than a cheap first year.

Does managed hosting include email?

Usually not. Cloudways sells Rackspace mailboxes at $1.50 each a month. Kinsta does not offer email at all. Shared hosting normally bundles it, which is one of the few things you give up when you move.

Does managed hosting include a domain?

No. Neither Cloudways nor Kinsta registers domains. Buy one separately for about $11 a year and point it at your host.

Can I move down a plan if I overpay?

On Cloudways, yes. You can scale CPU and RAM up and then back to the original size, as long as you leave storage unchanged. Kinsta plan changes are handled by support. Neither locks you into a term, so a wrong guess costs a month.

Do I have to pay for a year upfront?

Not always. Cloudways bills according to usage and Kinsta offers monthly billing. Kinsta's annual option includes a discount, while WP Engine displays both monthly starting prices and annual checkout totals. Confirm the billing period before paying because the lowest equivalent monthly price may require annual prepayment.

Do managed hosting prices increase at renewal?

It depends on the provider and offer. Cloudways Flexible promotes usage-based pricing without a separate introductory renewal rate. WP Engine publishes starting purchase prices and a separate renewal schedule for affected subscriptions. Always record the checkout total, billing period and stated renewal before subscribing.
